MY HOME
My Home is an ongoing collaborative project combining portraiture and storytelling, featuring first- and second-generation immigrants. Each participant wears clothing that reflects their cultural heritage, and their portraits are paired with personal narratives that honor immigrant identity, memory, and resilience.
Through this project, I use portraiture as a tool to explore how immigrants express home in both personal and public spaces. Each collaboration grows out of conversation and trust—together we brainstorm wardrobe, stories, and meaningful locations connected to their experiences. This process ensures that every subject’s voice and identity remain central to the work.
I am currently working with participants in New York City and plan to expand to other U.S. cities and internationally, including Japan. As an immigrant from Japan, I’ve witnessed rising anti-immigrant sentiment not only in the U.S. but also in my home country. My Home is a visual response to that climate—an effort to celebrate visibility, humanity, and the beauty of belonging across borders.
